Federal hst 9mm 147 vs 124.
My experience with 124gr HST, in either standard pressure or +p, is that they are exceptionally accurate in Gen 5 Glocks. Like I was able to shoot a 3x5 card at 50 yards 3 out of 5 times freestyle with my Glock 19. Stupid levels of accuracy. In my Glock 45 I shot a 6" group at 100 yards.

Ballistics show the HST 124gr to have a penetrating depth of 18.3" and an expansion of .61" while the HST 147gr penetrates 15.2" and also expands to .61".147gr would be ideal. 124 +P tends to over expand, even out of short barrels, limiting its penetration depth. 147gr will penetrate deeper because of its mass. +P just makes it recoil harder, don't bother. Sgammo.com usually has HST in Stock at good prices. Just throwing it out there. Standard pressure.

The HST is not as good of a barrier blind load as the Critical Duty at least thru some barriers, particularly safety glass. HST is not particularly good thru safety glass and does not meet FBI standards for that test. I'm looking over ballistics tables over on the Federal site, the 124 gr stuff seems to have an energy advantage at short range versus the 147 gr stuff. Personally, I go heavy for caliber. In my Shield, this gives me an advantage because heavier bullets loose less percentage of their velocity than lighter bullets.

If a 124+P is good because it expands fast and travels at a good speed, the 147 doenst travel as fast but heavy bullet and penetrates more and expands more than the 124+P, also the 147+P is heavy and travels at a decent speed. So wouldnt the 147 +P be the best expands the most and good penetration.

Right now I'm running some Federal HST 147gr. Recently saw an article that most people were thinking 124gr was better, faster, etc.124 is simply more popular.
